Time Warner Customers May Lose MTV, Comedy Central, and Others

Millions of cable TV viewers may be screaming "I want my MTV" tomorrow.

If Viacom is unable to come to an agreement over carriage fees with Time Warner, the country's second largest cable operator, Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, CMT, and 15 other channels will be turned off for nearly 13 million subscribers at 12:01 am on Thursday.

Basically, Viacom has asked for more money from Time Warner to carry the channels, about 22 to 36 percent more per channel. The higher cost would then be passed along to subscribers, equating to roughly 23 cents more per month. Time Warner doesn't believe the increase is justified due to sagging network ratings; however, Viacom feels their channels are undervalued by Time Warner.

The channels affected would be Comedy Central, CMT: Pure Country, Logo, Palladia, MTV, MTV 2, MTV Hits, MTV Jams, MTV Tr3s, Nickelodeon, Noggin, Nick 2, Nicktoons, Spike, The N, TV Land, VH1, VH1 Classic, and VH1 Soul.

Converter Box Coupon Supply Running Slim

As more and more consumers become aware of the approaching Digital TV Transition occurring early next year, the demand for converter box coupons has dramatically increased. As a result of the February 17, 2009 deadline coming up, there have been a rush of requests for the government-sponsored coupons and there is a chance the government may not have enough funds to back all the coupon requests. TV viewers waiting until the last minute to apply for the coupons may find themselves empty-handed when the transition occurs. Unfulfilled requests will be held until more funds become available, likely through unredeemed coupons.

On February 17, 2009, all high-powered broadcast stations will transition from analog to digital signals. If your TV is not capable of receiving digital signals, and you are not hooked up to cable or satellite TV, then you will need to purchase a digital converter box. Without the aid of a converter box or pay-TV services, your analog TV will not be able to display programming such as your favorite primetime TV shows or news. When the "switch is flipped" over to digital your TV will go blank. The digital converter box connects to your current analog TV and converts the incoming digital signals so your television is able to display them. The converter boxes range in price from $40 to $60, depending on the model. In order to help ease the burden of this cost, the Federal government is issuing up to two $40 coupons per household to put towards the purchase of the converter boxes. Only one coupon may be used per converter box.

To apply for your $40 coupons, you will need to fill out the quick and easy online application at www.DTV2009.gov. Once you receive your coupons, you may then use them to put towards your converter box purchase from qualifying electronics retailers, such as AllAmericanDirect.com. The coupons do not cover any applicable tax or shipping charges.

Dish Network Brings the Fun of Interactive TV Into Your Home

Did you know you can play games such as Monopoly or check out the latest pizza special from your local Papa John's restaurant all through your television? Television has changed dramatically over the years, and now is more engaging than ever with interactive TV (iTV). Dish Network offers a variety of interactive options like news, weather, games, sports, local movie listings and more.

One of my favorite features is the Dish Decision 2008 iTV application. Now until November 7 on Dish Network Channel 100, you can catch six 24-hour news programs simultaneously on the channel mosaic and also find out useful information on each of the candidates. It's a great feature if you're still undecided or just can't get enough election coverage. The news stations featured are FOX News Channel, CNN, MSNBC, CNN Headline News, CSPAN, and CSPN2.

Some receiver models may not be able to access DishHome. However, most subscribers should simply be able to go to DishHome on Dish Network Channel 100 to access all the interactive options.

If you've been thinking of switching to Dish Network, now is a great time because All American Dish has an exclusive $100 cash back bonus offer going on now. Just visit us online today or call 1-877-444-4388 to see how much money you can save by switching to Dish Network satellite TV.

DISH Network Ups the HD Ante

Yesterday, DISH Network became the first in the industry to offer high definition programming in 1080p, the highest and best HD resolution available, setting the bar for the next-generation HD standard.

This new move is part of DISH Network's latest and unprecedented expansion in high definition services, which includes the rollout of TurboHD, the industry's first 100%, all-HD suite of programming packages. Dish Network HD Plans Still On Track

Dish Network dishHD subscribers can breathe a sigh of relief. Despite the recent launch failure of the AMC-14 satellite, Dish Network still plans on reaching their goal of 100 HD channels and 100 HD markets by the end of 2008. The AMC-14 satellite, launched Friday March 14, was the first of three satellites to be launched this year, enabling Dish Network to expand their High Definition programming. The satellite fell short of its intended orbit, but is said to be operating normally. A decision has not been made yet as to what to do with the satellite. Despite this setback, Dish Network still feels confident they can continue as planned with the HD rollout with two more launches scheduled for later this year.

This should come as good news to both current dishHD subscribers and future subscribers. Dish Network offers a wide range of standard and high defintion programming for much less than other digital cable or satellite tv providers. Also, new customers can upgrade to the Dish Network High Definiton DVR for free, which can cost as much as $299 with other providers. For more information on dishHD, contact All American Dish for the guaranteed lowest Dish Network prices at www.AllAmericanDish.com or call 1-877-444-4388.

Your Local Networks May Be Lost in 2009 - Are You Prepared?

There are many underserved consumers in the United States that cannot receive their local channels. There are many reasons why this may be. Some are listed below, along with actions that you, the consumer, can take if you are affected by this.

Changes to the legislation that governs this will be taking place in 2009. Now is the time for you to speak your voice and opinions about the options available to consumers. You can go to
www.MyDistantNetworks.com, a website offered by AllAmericanDirect.com, to contact your representatives today.

Just because you currently receive your local channels, does not mean you won’t be affected by the changes. Please read further to see how you may be impacted.

Q: I live where I can’t get all the networks, and I’ve been denied a waiver, what should I do?

A:
1. Continue to contact your local station with requests.
2. If you must, elevate your concern to the General Manager of the station. We have seen that persistence pays off for some customers.
3. Write your representative about changing the legislation. Please be sure to include your personal story of frustration in trying to obtain waivers. Congress is revisiting the current legislation in 2008 and voicing your concerns will impact the upcoming changes. . To see a sample letter and find your Congressional representatives go to
www.mydistantnetworks.com.

Q: What if I currently get 1 or more Distant Networks, should I be concerned about the new legislation?

A: Absolutely. As reported in the NY Times on February 11, 2008 approximately 5.9 million people will lose at least one network signal after the digital conversion in February 2009.

If you are currently qualified to receive less than 4 Network stations you are likely to loose those other stations that you currently are not qualified to receive. You need to write your representatives in Washington about changing the legislation. Please be sure to include your personal story of frustration in getting good quality television pictures where you live. Let them know if other channels go dark during the digital conversion you want to be automatically qualified to able to get the other Distant Networks turned on by simply calling AllAmericanDirect.com and not having to go through a confusing qualification and wavier process that may leave you without your favorite TV programs for weeks, months or years. Congress is revisiting the current legislation in 2008 and voicing your concerns now will impact the upcoming changes. To see a sample letter and find your Congressional representatives go to
www.mydistantnetworks.com.

If you are currently qualified for all four networks you still need to be concerned because the Broadcasters have petitioned Congress to eliminate the license that allows AllAmericanDirect.com and DirecTV the right to service homes such as yours.

You need to write your representatives about making sure the new legislation does not prohibit you from continuing to receive distant networks. Please be sure to include your personal story of frustration in getting good quality television pictures where you live. Congress is revisiting the current legislation in 2008 and voicing your concerns will impact the upcoming changes. To see a sample letter and find your Congressional representatives go to
www.mydistantnetworks.com.

Q: If I have an RV or a Boat, how can I get my networks to watch while I’m in them?

A: If you have an RV, you do have some options.
1. If you have a Dish Network system, go to
www.mydistantnetworks.com and complete an RV waiver. You must include a copy of your vehicle registration for us to begin processing your request.
2. If you have a DirecTV system, contact DirecTV for the signal.
3. If you do not have a satellite system contact, All American Dish at 877-444-4388 or visit our web site at www.allamericandish.com.
4. Write your representative about changing the legislation and let them know any changes to the legislation must not exclude RV users from obtaining Distant Networks. To see a sample letter and find your Congressional representatives go to
www.mydistantnetworks.com.

If you have a boat, you must write your representatives and let them know you should be included, and have the same privilege as other Americans to watch Network TV when you are on your boat. To see a sample letter and find your Congressional representatives go to
www.mydistantnetworks.com.

American Idol season 7 front-runners easy to spot

It was boy's night on yesterday's episode of American Idol, and already it's easy to pick out which male contestants will be around for a while. Each of the 12 male contestants had to pick a song from the 1960's to perform. In case you missed last night's performances, here's a run-down of the hits and misses.

The cream of the crop
David Archuleta - If I had to pick a winner this early in the season, David would be it. At just 17 years old, David's performance of "Shop Around" was the best of the night. It was exciting, fresh, and showed off his amazing vocal talent. As Paula said, you don't realize he's so young because all you see is an experienced, talented performer who enjoys what he's doing.

Jason Castro - This is definitely a guy to keep your eye on and was my second favorite performance of the night. His interpretation of "Daydream" held true to the song's original style, but Jason was able to keep it lively and young by injecting some of his personal style into the performance and playing guitar. As Simon said, the backup band was almost unnecessary; it would have been great to hear just Jason and his guitar. This guy has the talent and style to carry him far in season 7 of American Idol.

The Rockstars
David Cook - I had the same reaction to David's interpretation of "Happy Together" as Randy Jackson did, which is to say I had no idea what the song was until he reached the chorus. David's vocal abilities are average by comparison, but he really rocked the song and made it memorable. Overall, the performance was great.

Robbie Carrico - Robbie may be one to look out for in this competition, and is definitely the best of the three male rockers. His performance of "One is the Lonliest Number" was outstanding, and vocally he was skilled enough to pull off this difficult song. Simon questioned Robbie's true identity, wondering if he was really a pop star dressed up like a rocker, but Robbie assured us he is all rock 'n roll.

Michael Johns - This Australian-born hottie really embraced Jim Morrison's persona during his interpretation of "Light My Fire." His performance, complete with a scarf, dark shirt and some Morrison-esque moves to boot, was good but not stellar. He'll have to bring out his own style if he wants to last, but his good looks and Australian accent may help keep him around longer.

The Sleepers
Jason Yeager - Jason's performance of "Moonriver" last night reminded me of the scene from "Dreamgirls" where the clean-cut guy sings a watered-down version of "Cadillac Car." Jason has a nice voice, but I don't think he has the charisma to rise to the top of the competition.

Luke Menard - Ah, my fellow Hoosier. The band almost drowned out his thin voice and the song choice was bad. Like Simon said, the performance was "forgettable."

Garrett Haley - This mop-topped youngster's inexperience just might be catching up to him. He managed to survive through to the end of his performance of "Breaking up is Hard to Do," but I don't think he'll survive much longer in the competition.

Liza Minnelli would be proud
Colton Berry - This kid will have a promising career as a performer, but not as a pop-star. His performance of "Suspicious Minds" was a little over the top, and would best be described as a little "cabaret." Not surprisingly, he mentioned in his pre-performance interview that his vocal coach identified this as one of his weaknesses.

Danny Noriega - His interpretation of Elvis's "Jailhouse Rock" wasn't the best of the evening, but I don't think it deserved the harsh criticism he received from Simon. Danny has a great voice, but the song choice surprised us all and clearly wasn't a good one. The song, paired with his awkward girations, was a little over the top and places him towards the bottom of my list of favorites.

These guys need to loosen up
David Hernandez - Props go out to David for being the first performer of the night; that's a difficult spot to be in. However, his performance of "Midnight Hour" isn't going to put him at the top of list. It's easy to see he has the vocal talent, but he needs to work on loosening up his performace and connecting with the audience.

Chikezie - Who needs a last name with a name like Chikezie? Singing "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" wearing an orange suit that screamed "I love the '70's", Chikezie brought a smile to my face. He nailed the song, he looked like he was having fun performing it, and I think he really connected to the audience. His main drawback is that he comes across too old for a pop star. Maybe it was just that suit...

Tonight's American Idol episode features the ladies, so be sure to catch this one or DVR it if you can. There's a lot of great talent this year!

Digital TV transition of 2009 - Will You Be Affected?

There has been a lot of chatter lately about the digital conversion that will take place in 2009, yet many consumers still don't understand if they will one of the 13.5 million people left in the dark. On February 18, 2009, full-power U.S. television stations will be turning off all of their analog signals to make a full converion to a digital format. It has become evident that there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding this transition so it is imporatant for consumers to do some research before making a decision to either replace their current tv or purchase a converter box.

If you currently subscribe to Dish Network or another satellite tv provider, or you subscribe to a cable tv service, you may have to contact your programming provider to see if you will need any additional equipment, such as a digital set-top box. If you already are receiving digital programming from your provider, you will still be able to receive your current programming in 2009. If you are using a television with a built-in digital tuner, you will also be able to continue to receive programming either with an antenna or through a pay tv provider.

Those who have an analog television and are receiving programming with an antenna will have a few options. The first option involves purchasing a digital converter box from an authorized retailer. The second option would be to replace your television with one that contains a digital tuner.

There is some good news for those who do decide to purchase a converter box. The government is providing over a billion dollars to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration to help consumers purchase the needed equipment. Every household can receive up to 2 coupons and consumers can apply via the internet at www.dtv2009.com or call toll-free at 1-888-DTV-2009. The coupon will help the consumers save $40 off the cost of the boxes, which should be available soon at a cost of $50-$70.

If you decide to replace your analog televisions with digital televsion, there are a few things to know. By law, all televisions shipped to or shipped within the United States after March 1, 2007 must contain a digital tuner. As of May 25, 2007, if a retailer has an analog television that was received prior to the March 1 timeframe, they must disclose to the customer that the tv contains an analog receiver and that a digital converter box will be require to receive over-the-air television after February 18, 2009.

If you are receiving programming using an antenna and are unsure if you have a digital television, review your television manual for phrasing such as “Integrated (ATSC/Digital) Tuner” or “(HDTV/Digital) Tuner Built-In.” If you see that your tv literature contains this information, you should be able to receive your antenna programming after the conversion is complete. For more information from the FCC on the 2009 conversion, visit http://www.dtv.gov/.
